Police Dispatch – Irvine, CA

Project Timeframe: 2012-2014

University of California, Irvine (UCI) contracted Triad Consulting & System Design Group (Triad Consulting) to provide consulting and design services for the upgrade of the Campus Police Dispatch Center.

The dispatch center upgrade addressed desktop visualization to combine five separate computer workstations into a single desktop through implementation of the VMWare environment. Detailed discussions were held with police and dispatch personnel to assess tasks and functional requirements of the dispatch operators to determine how to integrate the systems to best enhance dispatch operators capabilities.

The project provided integration of the 911 call system, computer aided dispatch, central station alarm monitoring, access control and alarm monitoring system, and video surveillance system monitoring system to provide automatic operation of functions to reduce tasks required by dispatchers. The integration reduced manual operator tasks to allow better analysis of alarms. An integral part of the design was the consolidation of several different video systems onto a single video management system (VMS) platform to provide easy access to all campus cameras at each dispatch desk.

This multi-phase project included a feasibility study with ROM budget and conceptual design, a data gathering stage culminating in a recommended schematic level layout presented for approval, a construction document phase including room and console layouts, single-line diagrams and CSI format technical specifications.

Triad Consulting is supporting UCI through bid and construction of this technically challenging project by pre-qualifying contractors and conducting shortlist interviews as well as reviewing proposals for compliance.
